SIERRA GORDA MINING PROJECT, 140 KM OF PIPELINES
Ruhrpumpen Chile has been awarded the contract to supply pumps that will
operate at a capacity of 23,775gpm (1500 l/s) and generate 71,074 HP (53MW) for
pumping seawater to Sierra Gorda Project, which is property of “Sierra Gorda
Sociedad Contractual Minera, located in the Antofagasta region, North of
Chile.
Sierra Gorda Mining Project consists on the open pit exploitation of copper sulfides and its processing, this produces copper and molybdenum concentrates through a process conducted with seawater. The seawater pipeline reaches the 140km length and an altitude of 5577 ft. above the sea level.
The system requires Duplex Stainless Steel equipment, which is composed by eight motor driven vertical turbine pumps (Model 20MQH 4 stages, 600HP) installed at the port.
